The Results Are In
Whether or not the fast food industry is a cause of obesity in the United States, one thing is certain: people who are fat continue to go to fast food restaurants. Everybody knows how bad those places are for your health, in fact I think I have published several articles on the subject myself, and yet they come. By the semi-truck load. Using a standard tray liner I was able to keep track of the number of obese and non-obese people that came through drivethrough. Here is a picture of my tallying:

As you can see, there are 198 people included on the “Fat” side and only 71 on the “Not Fat” side. That is, about 2/3 of the people who come through the drive through at McDonalds are overweight. You can note the creases as I quickly folded the paper up and shoved it into my pockets to hide it from my manager. More than a few customers ratted me out.
Just how accurate are my results? Well an article at HealthAtoZ says that obesity in American adults is at about 60% (source: link.) Conclusion: I am dead on. From my results we can conclude that the majority of overweight American’s go to fast food restaurants, or at least McDonald’s. WHY?!? Do you know how many people I have listened to whine about how they are overweight and nobody will ever like them? Stop going to McDonald’s for one thing! Its like they are digging a hole and wondering why they are going downward.
right on!!!
i’m with you 100%
i haven’t eaten at mcdonalds for 5 years and in those 5 years i have lost 55 pounds…
i used to weigh 170 at age 11
and now i weigh 115 at age 16
so i believe that mcdonald and places like that are to blame for americas fatness…
maybe not the orignal cause but its definatly the reason america’s staying fat….
i am righting a speech on this and i would like your permission to use your article as a reference…
would that be ok with you???
Well this is the serious side of me talking now… and to quote from Gallup’s website (although it referenced their polls):
“This is an informal and unscientific survey.”
Basically take it with a grain of salt if you are going to use it in a research paper. Anyways, you are more than welcome to reference this in your speech. I’m not a health professional, but obesity is caused by both your diet and exercise.
Basically McDonald’s and other fast food joints act simply as the catalyst to the problem of obesity. Its a simple and (if you go with the dollar menu) cheap way of putting unhealthy food into the hands of people who aren’t responsible with it. For example, I used to see the same people again and again at McDonald’s. Like everything else, moderation is important. And you can quote that too if you feel it is helpful. Good luck with your speech.
